Styles of Collecting, Styles of the Book

Constance Woo's Case (and Constance Woo)

Artist's Statement

With a background in literature, I feel the presence of text in artists' books should contribute to the substance of a book as significantly as the visual elements. I'm interested in other pursuits that relate materially and formally to the book: handmade paper, three‐dimensional receptacles, linear and sequentially constructed vehicles where the material is the text. Ergo, baskets, paper pages with elements that form their own comment embedded during the papermaking process, recycled printed papers with found texts and even paper jewelry that express the relation between art and nature. The material for paper and baskets derive from the same plant sources; one is more processed, the other in a raw form. Then, as a further permutation, I've been involved in the decorative arts using time‐honored materials.
